The Authentication section within the Remote Connect dialog allows the user to specify their authentication options that will be used to attempt a connection to the remote machine. Authentication options include:
Authentication Types: Allows the MRC user to select the Authentication method used to connect to this specific remote machine within a Mini Remote Control session.
Proprietary Challenge/Response This authentication method allows you to manually enter/define a username and password within the Mini Remote Client Agent Service, in order to allow access to this machine without requiring a NT UserID & Password. The username and password are stored in an encrypted format in either the DWRCS.INI file or Registry on the remote machine. This authentication method requires that the Mini Remote Client Agent Service be preinstalled on the remote machine.
Windows NT Challenge/Response This authentication method uses the Operating Systems built in security for authentication to gain access to a remote machine with the DMRC. This option allows you to use the DMRC's Local and Global group options as well as NT Challenge / Response pass-through.
Encrypted Windows Logon The Encrypted Windows Logon authentication method is similar to the Windows NT Challenge / Response authentication method except that the Encrypted Windows Logon sends the username and password to the remote machine in an encrypted format. This authentication method is designed for primarily for situations were NT Challenge/Response authentication will not work or when Windows NT Challenge Response fails.
- Such as in situation where DC's do not allow anonymous connections. - Situations where NT Challenge/Response authentication has been disabled. - Windows XP Home. - Windows XP Pro in Simple File Sharing mode Smart Card Logon This authentication method allows the MRC user to interactively logon to a remote machine using a Smart Card and PIN from their Local Machine, even when the remote machine is currently at the Logon Desktop or Lock Screen.
Use Current Credentials: Enables NT Challenge / Response "pass through" attention for the Mini Remote connection and passes the credentials of the account that is currently logged in to desktop of the local machine. This feature works only with the NT Challenge / Response Authentication Type.
UserID / Password / Domain: A valid set of credentials that have sufficient rights to access this remote machine over the network. In order to access any machine using the MRC program, these credentials must have sufficient rights to sit down at the console of the remote machine and login (or at a minimum map a drive to a shared resource on the remote machine). If you cannot access the remote machine using these credentials via the O/S itself, then you will also not have the ability to use these credentials to access the remote via our software either. Also, when using local credentials vs domain credentials simply leave the Domain field blank.
Shared Secret: The Shared Secret password is an additional password that you can choose to implement, regardless of the authentication method used for the connection. Therefore, anyone connecting to a remote machine would also need to know what Shared Secret password was defined within the Client Agent Service on that remote machine.
Remember Security Credentials: When enabled, this setting allows you to save your credentials (UserName, Password, Domain, and Shared Secret) for the selected Host Entry. If this setting is not enabled, then the credentials for this Host Entry will not be saved. You must also click on the Connect or Save button to save the changes made to the credentials |
